But this was not because the Yugoslav President Tito responded to events in neighboring Hungary with a letter on October 29 to the Central Committee of the Hungarian Communist Party. In the letter, he expressed a certain sympathy regarding the demands of the population but called for the end to the bloodshed and the defense of socialism.
